Sunderland defender Bryan Oviedo and midfielder Lee Cattermole have both been linked with a move away from Wearside this summer.
Cattermole was recently linked with a move to Bordeaux to join up with former Black Cats manager Gustavo Poyet, whilst Oviedo has impressed in Sunderland’s first two games of the season.
However, Jack Ross has revealed in an interview with the Chronicle that the pair staying on Wearside wouldn’t be a bad thing, especially because of their impact off the pitch.
Ross on what the pair bring to Sunderland: “They have different characteristics and different qualities that enhance the group. Not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well.
“There are loads of different facets that are sometimes unseen from the outside.” Ross added.
A move away for the pair is seemingly the right move for all parties, with both Oviedo and Cattermole the two highest earners on Sunderland’s books, but Ross thinks otherwise.
“If they weren’t bringing anything to the squad in a positive way at all, it’s a different situation. But I feel as if now we’ve got 20-ish players who all bring something.
“The group are all pushing in the same direction and enjoying the environment.” Ross said.
Sunderland have back-to-back home games to Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup and a huge game to promotion rivals Scunthorpe United on Sunday afternoon.
