Sunderland made 12 new signings to their League One squad in the summer.

Sunderland made 12 signings in the summer ahead of their League One campaign and all of those players have proved to be shrewd additions.
The Black Cats currently sit third in the table under manager Jack Ross, but the Scot could be keen to add to his impressive squad in a few key areas in the January transfer window.
And in an interview with the Sunderland Echo, executive director Charlie Methven admitted the Sunderland board would be willing to listen to any requests their manager may have in the new year.
When speaking about the current Sunderland squad, Methven said: “We are in a bit of a bind and Jack is aware of that. But at the same time, one or two players leaving in January would be perfectly natural, and we have quite a big squad, certainly by League One standards.
“I don’t think Jack wants many more numbers but like most managers I’m sure he does want to tweak in certain areas, and I’m sure in the board and Stewart he would find a willing listener.”

The Wearside team still have a number of players to come back from injury over the next few months, including summer signing Charlie Wyke and young star Duncan Watmore.
And although Sunderland’s squad might be more than good enough come January, selling some of the higher earners in the side and replacing them with young prospects could be something for Ross to consider in the new year.
