Duncan Watmore has had his fair share of injury problems, but could play a massive part in getting Sunderland back into the second division.

Duncan Watmore has had his fair share of sickening misfortune in the past two seasons on Wearside.
Not only has he witnessed back-to-back relegations from the sidelines, but he’s also suffered back-to-back cruciate ligament injuries.
The first injury against Leicester City saw him miss the majority of the 2016/17 Premier League season, but then Watmore suffered even more heartbreak after the same injury recurred in the Black Cats’ pitiful Championship campaign last season.

But despite almost two years without a consistent amount competitive football, the 24-year-old could play a huge part in Sunderland’s League One promotion bid next season.
Prior to his initial injury, Watmore was in excellent form for the Black Cats and also for England at under-21 level.
The Sunderland man scored a sensational chipped goal against France in a 3-2 defeat just a couple of weeks before his injury against Leicester, showing fans a glimpse of what he can do.

And Watmore will almost definitely prove to be one of the stars of League One once he is back to full fitness. His pace and ability to beat a player will prove to be key in a division which is known for its physicality.
The former Altrincham man can also play as a striker as well as a winger, which could prove to be useful for the new Sunderland manager.
However, there is little doubt that Watmore will have his work cut out to get back to being fully match-fit and a date for his return isn’t yet known. Sunderland will certainly feel reluctant to rush their man back, given what happened last time around.
