22-year-old Denver Hume played the full 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday evening.

Sunderland were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Thursday evening, after being on the wrong end a 2-0 defeat to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
Manager Jack Ross could certainly take positives from the loss, however, with many of Sunderland’s young players featuring in the game, including full-back Denver Hume. The 22-year-old played the full match against the Owls and looked solid for the most part, but could he be a Sunderland regular fixture in League One this season?
Hume played right-back for the majority of the game and despite being predominantly left footed, the youngster looked composed throughout – and even came close to creating a goal in the early stages. Sunderland don’t have a lot of cover at full-back, especially given Donald Love’s recent injury, and it’s likely that Hume, given his versatility, will feature on the bench for most of the season.
Hume’s evident attacking mindset, and his excellent sense of positioning, could certainly come in handy for the Black Cats this term and he may even be required as a starter. Sunderland’s first-choice right-back Adam Matthews looks set to miss the game against United on Sunday afternoon and it could Hume’s chance in front of a huge crowd at the Stadium of Light.
