Sunderland’s Aiden McGeady made the move to Wearside back in 2017 and the 32-year-old has been a part of back-to-back relegations with the North East club.

McGeady was one of the few players who came out of the Black Cats’ season in the Championship with any credibility, but the Irish international now finds himself playing his football in League One.

The winger has been nothing short of excellent as of late and has been impressive ever since his return to Jack Ross’ side after a long-term injury – and his good form continues to provide a positive selection headache to his manager.

The former Celtic man has played in the Champions League, Europa League and has even been good at international level, but his adaptation to third-tier football has been most impressive.

McGeady bagged a brace against Plymouth Argyle last weekend and grabbed the man of the match award – and has now made it three goals in as many games after scoring against Southend United in Sunderland’s last home tie.

And with Chris Maguire and Lynden Gooch having been arguably two of the best players in Sunderland’s squad, as well as skipper George Honeyman coming into form, the former Premier League side have possibly the best attack in the league.

Four in-form players and only three positions available in the Sunderland attack does come with its problems for Ross – but with the hectic winter schedule just around the corner – the problem is a positive one for the Scot and his team.
