Sunderland currently sit second in League One after 17 matches.

Last season’s Championship campaign couldn’t have went worse for Sunderland, but this season in League One has sparked new life into the Wearside club.
The Black Cats are renowned for their brilliant support and this season’s success after 17 matches has brought the feel-good factor back to the loyal red and white faithful after back-to-back dismal campaigns.
And the continued support from the Sunderland fans hasn’t went unnoticed by defender Adam Matthews, who described his side’s fans as ‘brilliant’ in an interview with the Sunderland echo.
When speaking about Sunderland’s fans, Matthews said: “Last season the fans were brilliant. It was tough for us on the pitch, but really tough for them off it. You can see with the attendances we’ve had this season that they’re behind the team.
“They’ve always been brilliant and want their team to do well, which we haven’t done until this season. I think it is time we repay them now, and hopefully we can get promotion.”

Sunderland drew 1-1 with Wycombe Wanderers at the Stadium of Light last Saturday, but the performance on the pitch didn’t meet the standards of the previous 16 games.
Jack Ross’ side will get the chance to put that performance right when they head to the Bescot Stadium to play Walsall this weekend, as they look to keep up with the leading pack.
