Mauricio Pochettino has turned Tottenham into one of the strongest and slickest teams in Europe.

He has achieved the feat without spending gratuitous amounts of money on players, preferring instead to nurture homegrown talent and find rough diamonds he can sculpt into stars for club and country.

The club has five players in Gareth Southgate’s England squad at the Russia World Cup with star man Harry Kane on course to win the golden boot.

Spurs finished third last season to secure Champions League football as they prepare to return to their redeveloped White Hart Lane home.

But Tottenham were 23 points behind champions Manchester City and failed to win the League Cup or FA Cup.

Now former Spurs academy graduate Ryan Mason has told Sky Sports News what could help his old club close the gap next season.

“For starters we’re going back to our home stadium, I think that’s going to be a massive thing for us,” Mason told Sky Sports News.

“Hopefully we can progress like we did last season, I feel like it was a successful season to secure Champions League football for the new stadium was massive for the club.

“I’m sure if England have a very successful summer then those (Tottenham) players coming back will feel a lot more confident in terms of going on and winning trophies.”
