He is best known for representing their bitter rivals but Ryan Mason has delivered an honest verdict on Jack Wilshere’s potential move to West Ham United.

Ryan Mason is best known for his time with West Ham’s rivals Tottenham but is now forging a career as a pundit after being forced to retire early due to the head injury he sustained while playing for Hull City.

West Ham are one of a number of clubs who have been linked with a move for former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, and Mason has had his say.

And now the Hammers have held talks with the free agent, as reported by the likes of Sky Sports.

West Ham under new manager Manuel Pellegrini, are reportedly keen on the 26-year-old midfielder after he left Arsenal on July 1.

That followed talks with new Gunners boss Unai Emery who reportedly told Wilshere his game time would be “significantly reduced” if he chose to remain at the Emirates.

West Ham fans are excited at the prospect of signing the boyhood Hammer.

And former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason, who has played against Wilshere in North London derbies and with him for England, has delivered an honest verdict on his potential move to the Hammers in an interview with Sky Sports News.

“Yes (West Ham would be a good fit for Wilshere),” Mason told Sky Sports News.

“He’s the type of player that suits the Premier League. He goes into every game wanting to win, you can tell he’s passionate and when he’s on his game and on his day he’s a fantastic player to watch.

“Obviously the priority for him is to get back to his best and if he can get back to his best then I’m sure he’ll be in that England squad because on his day he’s a fantastic player.

“There was talk of him going abroad but I think sometimes it’s out of sight out of mind in terms of the England setup.

“I think if Jack could go to West Ham he’ll be in front of the eyes of the England staff watching and if he can get back to his best I’m sure he’ll be confident of getting back into that squad.”
