West Ham United fans have been promised big spending by co-owner David Gold following the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini.

It comes after a torrid couple of seasons since West Ham’s big move to the London Stadium, which Gold, fellow co-owner David Sullivan and vice-chairman Karren Brady promised would help the club compete with the elite in the transfer market.

That has not come to fruition, though, and Hammers fans’ anger literally spilled onto the pitch last season with protests against the board.
Supporters want the club to come good on promises of top quality signings and wanted to see a more professional approach to transfers with Sullivan taking a lead – and very public – role in recruitment.
West Ham have now brought in Mario Husillos as director of football with Sullivan set to take a step back, although reports in the likes of The Mirror claim he is still very much involved.
And supporters could be forgiven for feeling deflated by links to little known Napoli outcast Roberto Inglese, as reported by Italian outlet Il Mattino.
Accorrding to Il Mattino, West Ham want Inglese on loan with an option to buy, the type of transfer favoured by Sullivan and Gold during their time at West Ham.
Very few have worked out and Inglese has not been prolific in his career so far.
Inglese, whose name translates as Robert English, is the archetypal target man and stands at 6ft2 and renowned for his aerial ability but has just 57 goals in 259 career games so far.
The centre-forward was bought from Chievo last summer for £8 million, but stayed at the Stadio Bentegodi on loan, scoring 12 goals in 34 Serie A appearances.
Surely if West Ham truly want to move on to the next level they must be looking to a higher calibre of striker, particularly as Andy Carroll is injury-prone and the club only really has Marko Arnautovic – who is arguably not a striker – to rely on up front.
