West Ham United made Andriy Yarmolenko their fifth signing of the summer this week.
West Ham have been busy this summer since the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as manager.
The Hammers have signed Ryan Fredericks and Jack Wilshere on free transfers, while Lukas Fabianski and Issa Diop were followed by West Ham’s latest signing Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund this week.
Deals for South American duo Felipe Anderson and Fabien Balbuena are reportedly set for completion over the weekend and will take West Ham’s spending past the £90 million mark this summer (The Sun).
Hammers fans are loving life, but many have concerns over Yarmolenko’s ability to cut it in the Premier League following a poor season after his big move to Borussia Dortmund.
The Ukrainian was not the same player who had shone so brightly for Dynamo Kyiv – and his national side – when he made his big move to Germany.
But new West Ham director of football Mario Husillos has explained on the club’s official website why West Ham will get the best out of Yarmolenko again.
“At Dortmund, he had some good matches but perhaps didn’t quite show his very best,” Husillos told whufc.com.
“However, I think Manuel Pellegrini is the perfect coach for Andriy and his style of play.
“I believe he is joining us in the perfect moment.
“He is 28, the prime age for football, and we have great expectation about what he can achieve with West Ham United.”
