Everton have been heavily linked with a move for Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.

Everton are in desperate need of new blood, particularly in defence, and have been linked with Domagoj Vida, as reported by the likes of the Liverpool Echo.

The Toffees are in the hunt for a centre-back this summer and reports claimed Marco Silva has his sights set on Besiktas defender Vida.

The Croatian centre half only joined the Turkish club back in January on a free transfer but has attracted interest from across Europe with his displays at the Russia World Cup.

And as the competition intensifies Vida seems to be stepping up to the plate.

But has the 29-year-old just played his way out of a move to Everton and to a bigger club instead with a man of the match display against England as Croatia advanced to the World Cup final?

Vida was one of the best players on the pitch and barely gave Spurs star Harry Kane a kick as Croatia came back from 1-0 down to beat England 2-1 after extra-time.

Everton’s big rivals Liverpool have also been linked – as reported by the Liverpool Echo – and with Champions League football to offer that could prove decisive.

Silva must tackle the problem of an ageing defence which includes Ashley Williams, 33, Leighton Baines, 33 and 35-year-old Phil Jagielka.

While Vida wouldn’t bring that average age down considerably he still has a good three or four years left in him at the top level and brings plenty of much-needed experience too.
