A David Cotterill strike for Birmingham City was cancelled by out by Huddersfield Town’s Joe Lolley in a drab affair at St Andrew’s.
Birmingham City extended their unbeaten sequence to a fourth game with a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town. A close-range effort from former Blues scholar Joe Lolley cancelled out David Cotterill’s 10th minute strike in a scrappy affair.
Chances were few and far between in a match where both sides struggled to build possession but Huddersfield may feel hard done by having seen several balls fizz across the six-yard box without anyone being able to connect.
Blues took the lead following good work down the right flank from David Davis and Paul Caddis, who worked the ball into Cotterill inside the 18 yard area before the former Doncaster man lashed the ball home from a tight angle.
However, their lead was only to last 17 minutes, with the Blues not dealing with a long throw in and Lolley lashed home from four yards as Jonathan Spector failed to clear.
Andy Shinnie saw Alex Smithies make a fine save from his close-range header after teenage Blues winger Demarai Gray had managed to create some space on the right and swing in a cross from the by-line.
Jacob Butterfield should have then done better when free on the right hand side of the penalty area but he could only shoot wide across the goal from 10 yards out while in acres of space.
The second half was a much scrappier affair, with regular substitutions interrupting any momentum being built up in the game, although Wes Thomas will probably not want to see himself fluff his lines again when played in by Robert Tesche.
The result means that Birmingham City remain in mid-table safety in 15th, 13 points ahead of the bottom three, with the end of the season increasingly looking like a series of dead rubbers with only pride at stake.
