The Belgian side have finally receieved some money following the now-Liverpool player’s 2010 move to France.
Sky Sports have reported that French side Lille will need to pay Belgian club Genk £215,000 for Divock Origi.
The young forward signed for Liverpool last summer for £10million following an impressive World Cup campaign, but Lille had previously brought in Origi when he left his homeland as a 15-year-old.
At the time, Genk allegedly requested a training fee but they were refused on the ground of not offering Origi a contract prior to his departure.
However, it has now been announced that Lille will have to pay a fee for the player, who remained on loan in France following his Liverpool transfer.
Origi was a somewhat surprising selection for Marc Wilmots’ Belgium side at last summer’s World Cup, but he quickly proved why he had been chosen, delivering some wonderful performances in Brazil.
A big-money move to Anfield followed, but Liverpool fans are yet to see the 20-year-old in a Reds shirt.
Instead he remained at Lille, where he finished last season with nine goals and four assists in 44 appearances.
He still has a long way to go before he is the player some have tipped him to be, but at least Genk can now rest a little easier having received some money for someone previously on their books…even if it is Liverpool who look set to benefit from his ability long term.
