Former Liverpool striker Divock Origi is already be fighting for his future at AC Milan with the Premier League winner labelled a Serie A ‘flop’ by Calciomercato.
The Rossoneri may have been left feeling like Kevin Costner did when he opted for Waterworld over Shawshank Redemption.
Last summer, with Milan looking to strengthen their Scudetto-winning frontline with a bargain addition, the seven-time European champions opted for Divock Origi over Randal Kolo Muani. It would be an understatement to suggest they probably bet the house on the wrong horse.
If Kolo Muani is Milan’s very own Shawshank Redemption, then expect to see Origi’s name feature heavily in this year’s ‘Razzie’ nominations.

In 21 games, the Belgium international has just two goals and one assist, struggling to provide a reliable alternative to the 36-year-old Olivier Giroud in Stefano Pioli’s squad. Origi produced a more-than passable impression of ‘The Invisible Man’ during Saturday’s 1-0 win at Monza.
The contrast with Kolo Muani – 15 goals, 14 assists and a £90 million price-tag slapped upon his head after a remarkable start to life at Eintracht Frankfurt – could hardly be more stark.
Divock Origi an AC Milan ‘flop’ after Liverpool exit
“He arrived with a wealth of experience. But, to date, he has failed,” Calciomercato write; Origi labelled an even greater disappointment than the £30 million Charles de Ketelaere.
“His contribution is almost nil. The former Liverpool player was hired to be a starter. To date he is not even remotely close to being one. He is a flop.”
Pioli is not writing Origi off just yet. Not publicly at least. But, behind the scenes, there is a feeling that the 2020 Champions League winner is already fighting for his future. Milan have already placed a younger, more potent centre-forward towards the top of their summer wishlist.
Origi, Calciomercato add, is on Galatasaray’s radar. The 27-year-old Belgian international would fit in rather well with the Super Lig’s growing collection of former Premier League misfits; ex-West Ham benchwarmer Enner Valencia leading the Golden Boot race ahead of Bafetimbi Gomis, Fabio Borini and Michy Batshuayi.
