Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Liverpool and their potential search for a new midfielder.
It was reported almost two months ago now that Liverpool’s transfer business for the summer was done and dusted, but after their underwhelming start to the season, there have been calls for the Reds to get back in the market and sign a midfielder.
There have been some links to some new signings, and Bailey is led to believe that the Merseyside club have an outside chance of bringing Konrad Laimer in from RB Leipzig.
What’s been said?
Bailey spoke about Liverpool potentially going for a new midfielder.
“They are looking around, Ruben Neves is a player they’ve looked at before, but he’s not in their wheelhouse otherwise they’d have done that by now, he’s been available all summer,” Bailey said.
“One player that has been mentioned to me as a possibility is Konrad Laimer, his move to Bayern Munich hasn’t gone through yet, Bayern are making bids but it’s stalled. One year left on his contract, very good midfielder, he’s one that could be a possibility and could be done, it’s in Liverpool’s price bracket as well, £30m or less, so he’s a possibility, but a distant possibility because Liverpool are happy with the fact that they’ve looked at the market and they don’t think the quality is there for them.”
Useful signing
Liverpool would be very wise to get Laimer in if they can convince the Austrian to join the Reds this summer.
Laimer looks like a perfect fit for this Liverpool side. He’s a super-energetic midfielder who has been schooled by the Red Bull system, and his history at right-back would also help him play in Jordan Henderson’s midfield role which often sees the Englishman drift out wide.
The midfielder would be a very useful signing if the Reds can get this one over the line, and while it’s a distant possibility, it’s still a possibility.
Julian Ward may want to get to work on making this happen.
