Aston Villa fans have criticised Fabian Delph in recent weeks, but he has actually improved his game since signing a new deal.

Aston Villa’s poor run of results has seen the entire squad come under scrutiny.

The side’s persistent struggles have seen questions asked of every member of their first-team squad, with fans becoming more and more frustrating.

Villa have not played with any quality in the majority of their games this season, with their lack of attacking threat plaguing their campaign.

With the Midlands side sitting in 19th place, tensions are high at Villa Park and nobody seems exempt from the backlash of supporters.

Even Fabian Delph, who is widely regarded as Villa’s most talented player, has faced criticism in recent weeks, with many supporters suggesting that he has switched off since securing his future.

Delph signed a new deal at Villa on January 25th and there have been accusations that his form has dipped since.

Delph has a vital role to play for the Claret and Blues as he is expected to provide them with attacking threat and defensive solidarity, but the feeling is that he has been anonymous since signing a new contract.

The stats do not suggest that this is true, though, with Delph’s influence actually increasing since his future was confirmed.

Delph appears to have taken it upon himself to drag Villa out of these struggles, and, although it hasn’t worked so far, if Tim Sherwood had more players of the England international’s quality then they wouldn’t be in this mess.

Delph is making more tackles, having more touches and also is stopping opposition attacks more regularly by making more interceptions than he was prior to his new deal.

It suggests that Delph is the least of Villa’s problems at the moment and supporters of the club may be better off looking for deficiencies elsewhere, rather than blaming their star central midfielder.
