Ian Wright has slammed the ‘disgusting’ treatment of Tottenham Hotspur target, Gareth Bale, back in Spain, as he told ITV Sport.

The Real Madrid forward netted a brace for Wales on Thursday to help his country edge towards reaching the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Bale’s contract at Madrid is due to expire in the summer and if Wales reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then the 32-year-old will need to find a new home to play his football for next season.

There have been suggestions that the flying forward, who was on loan at Spurs last season, could return to north London again, as reported by TuttoMercatoWeb.

In truth, he did so before the delayed European Championships last summer, so it’s logical that it might happen again.

Nonetheless, after Spanish newspaper Marca labelled Bale a ‘parasite’ and accused him of ‘sucking’ Real Madrid’s money, as quoted by the Guardian, Wright issued this response on the player.

“I don’t think you can question what it means to him to play for Wales,” said Wright.

“He turns up for them, whatever is happening, in his mental state and how they (Real Madrid) are treating him there.

“We are talking about someone that has won four Champions League’s with this club. We aren’t talking about a player that has gone to that club and is smoking cigars and chilling.

“Yes, he plays golf, but so what? He comes up with the business. When he plays for Wales, he is ready to go. Disgusting what they said about him.”

From that quite outrageous solo goal against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final to his overhead kick in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

Bale has produced some outrageous moments in Madrid colours, but in truth, he will probably be more remembered for the back end of his reign at the Bernabeu.

Wales will face either Ukraine or Scotland in June in an on-off game, with the winner advancing to Qatar 2022.

It will be interesting if Wales don’t make it whether Bale will pack his footballing bags and retire because it’s not too shabby ending your career with four Champions League medals around your neck.
