Manchester City are more than willing to part with Wilfried Bony this summer – giving Everton a chance to finally sign him after a year of interest.

Without that fine 18-month spell at Swansea City, Wilfried Bony would be portrayed as just another big-money flop joining the pantheon of ill-fitting forwards brought over from the Eredivisie.

Since completing a £28 million move to Manchester City in January 2015, per the BBC, the Ivorian hitman has netted just 10 goals in 46 games for the Premier League giants. And it’s fair to say a season-long loan at Stoke City hasn’t exactly revived a stuttering career.

Potters boss Mark Hughes did not pick Bony once after he returned from the African Cup of Nations in the winter, meaning he netted just two goals in eleven appearances for the club.

Though Bony was very vocal in his criticism of the Stoke manager, claiming he could not understand why he was being left out, his performances only served to justify Hughes’ decision. When Saido Berahino is seen as a better option, you know you’re out of favour.

Therefore, memories of that goal-laden spell at Swansea after signing from Vitesse in 2013 are fading fast.

The Daily Mail claim City are desperate to get £127,000-a-week Bony off their wage bill. However, The Sun reports that West Brom, West Ham and Eveton are all willing to take a chance on the 28-year-old this summer.

And links with Everton are particularly intriguing. With Romelu Lukaku eyeing the exit, The Toffees have been linked with a whole host of strikers in recent weeks.

However, despite The Sun claiming they were close to a £15 million deal last summer, it appears that they would be better off not renewing their interest this time around.

Bony looked disinterested and disjointed at Stoke – a far cry from the composed and lethal goalscorer who earned himself a place in Swansea’s hearts.

Everton could do better.
