West Ham target Edson Alvarez has been speaking about his desire to leave Ajax in 2023, after Newcastle failed with a bid in August.
West Ham & Newcastle target desperate to leave
Well, it was 90min who revealed that West Ham are keen to sign the Mexico international.
Elsewhere, Mexican TV station TUDN claimed that Newcastle offered £25m for Alvarez back in August, although the Magpies saw their bid rejected by Ajax.
Then, the 25-year-old was the subject of a late offer from Chelsea, who bid £43m for his signature ahead of the September 1st deadline.
De Telegraaf believe Alvarez skipped training with Ajax in an attempt to force a move to Stamford Bridge, after the Dutch giants refused to let him leave.
Speaking about his eventful summer – and hopes of getting another chance to depart Amsterdam – the Ajax No.4 told ESPN: “I am very disappointed about it, but I am convinced that one day another big club will come for me. This winter, or in the summer. For now I can only focus on Ajax.”
Clearly, West Ham or Newcastle have a chance to complete a January deal with Alvarez keeping one eye on a potential winter exit, although Chelsea will be fierce competitors for his signature.
After seeing a move away from Ajax collapse, the defensive midfielder has made 16 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring one goal while also providing two assists.

In our view, Chelsea have seriously complicated things for West Ham and Newcastle with their bid.
Newcastle clearly valued Alvarez at a sum in the region of £25m on the basis on their offer, although the Blues have now taken the bidding to almost double that fee, and it still wasn’t enough.
Now, if David Moyes and Eddie Howe remain keen on signing the Mexican, they face paying a huge amount of money, while they must also somehow convince him to ignore Chelsea and the promise of Champions League football.
Keep an eye on this situation going into 2023, as Alvarez is clearly still desperate to move.
