Ronald Koeman left Southampton in the summer to take the Everton managerial job.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman explained on The Premier League Show on BBC Two on Wednesday night (broadcast from 10pm, November 16, 2016) why he left Southampton at the end of last season.
Koeman was appointed the Southampton manager in the summer of 2014 following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dutchman did quite a good job at the Saints, guiding the team to a seventh-place finish in the league during the 2014-15 campaign and then to sixth last season.
The former Valencia head coach left his role at Southampton and took the Everton managerial job in the summer.
The 53-year-old has revealed why he left the managerial job at St. Mary’s Stadium.
“The main reason was that we did not agree about my last year of contract,” Koeman said on The Premier League Show on BBC Two on Wednesday night (broadcast from 10pm, November 16, 2016).
“I mentioned to the club I would like to continue, and go into my last year then during the season we would have time to discuss about the future.
“There was no way for the club to do that, they came with the new offer and I was really disappointed about the offer to continue in Southampton.”
Koeman has done quite a good job at Everton so far, with the Toffees very much in the running for a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.
The Merseyside outfit are playing good football as well, and there is optimism around Goodison Park.
Everton will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Swansea City at Goodison Park in the Premier League.
