Leon Bailey has stated that he is ‘disappointed’ by Aston Villa’s defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, as pressure mounts on under-fire boss, Steven Gerrard.

After a positive pre-season, Villa started life to the new Premier League season with a 2-0 loss at newly-promoted Bournemouth and Bailey added ‘we will come back stronger’, with Everton their opponents on Saturday.

That defeat, and manner of performance, has put Gerrard under the spotlight, as his record since replacing Dean Smith doesn’t provide good viewing.

From his 28 games in charge, Villa have won ten matches, with five draws and 13 defeats – that reads at a win percentage of 35%, the same as Gary Neville’s at Valencia.

In pre-season, Villa went unbeaten, with Bailey being the club’s standout performer, but after the full-time whistle at Dean Court on Saturday, it just went to show how much of that doesn’t mean anything.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the reaction from Gerrard will be like leading up to the Everton game on Saturday and the reaction from the fans, as Bailey sent the following message.

GERRARD UNDER PRESSURE

Lots of things are under scrutiny with Gerrard, from his team selections, his relationship with Tyrone Mings, style of play and performances.

If Villa go 1-0 down to Everton at the weekend, then the reaction of the supporters is going to be interesting.

When Deam Smith was in charge, the Villa Park faithful didn’t turn against him because he was one of their own and what he had done for the club.

Gerrard simply doesn’t have that luxury, and if he can’t sort it out, then those paying their money will turn on the legendary midfielder a lot quicker.

The simple truth is, Gerrard hasn’t improved Villa since he walked through the doors, in fact, he’s not even proven that he is on par with the man he replaced.
