Leeds United coach Mark Jackson has admitted Charlie Cresswell and Ollie Casey were disappointed not to keep a clean sheet during Monday’s 7-1 battering of Fulham’s U23 side, speaking to LUTV.
It speaks volumes about the high standards demanded at Thorpe Arch these days that faults were found even during the most swaggering of victories.
First-team stars Tyler Roberts, Helder Costa and Pablo Hernandez all scored as ruthless Leeds put Fulham to the sword, with Bobby Kamwa, Joe Gelhardt and 18-year-old centre-half Cresswell also finding the net.
The Whites did concede a 71st minute consolation, however, and it seems Fulham’s late strike was a source of frustration even after a result that lifted Leeds top of the Premier League 2, Division Two table.
“I thought our attacking play was excellent throughout the game. We played with a purpose, a momentum, and created some really good chances,” Jackson says.
“I said to the players at half-time we could be a bit more clinical with the chances we created.
“I think there were a few players, as you’ve seen with Ollie and Cressy, who were disappointed not to keep a clean sheet.
“That’s something we’ve tried to address and work on, shoring up our defence a bit more, how we react and how we minimise opportunities for the opposition.
“Fulham created some chances, which we will look into of course. But going forward we were fantastic.”
Wales international Roberts has now scored three times in four U23 games this season – the perfect response to his lack of game time at senior level in recent weeks.
Summer signing Gelhardt, meanwhile, was a menace off the bench against Fulham and took his tally to four in eight.
