A £25 million fee has now been agreed; with it expected he will complete a move before the weekend and join them on their pre-season tour of the USA.
And reacting to the imminent move, Kuyt says that the Reds have been targeting a move for him for a number of years.
“A wonderful transfer for Gini. The best compliment for him was that his name in my time at Liverpool buzzed inside the club,” he told De Telegraaf.
“When I played for Liverpool, I heard them frequently say that he would be a wonderful asset one day. He is now at a top club in England and he’ll be at home.”

It now remains to be seen where Wijnaldum will fit into the current Liverpool team given the options Klopp has at his disposal.
There a currently a number of attacking midfielders in the squad, with several players seeking to play in the number ten role.
Given the money they are paying for the Dutchman he is unlikely to be sitting on the bench and it will be interesting to see which current star makes way to accommodate him.
