Dirk Kuyt has posted a brilliant message to new Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo on Instagram, after the Reds completed a deal for the World Cup phenomenon earlier this week – with Gakpo taking on the same shirt number.
Gakpo, 23, finally lands in the Premier League after months of rumours linking him with a move to English football. The likes of Leeds, Southampton, Manchester City and more have tried and failed to sign the star from PSV of late.
But he will now officially become a Liverpool player on January 1. Whether he will be available to play in his new side’s clash against Brentford on January 2 is another question – with his work permit needing to be sorted first.
The Mail report that Gakpo has set Liverpool back a fee of £44million including add-ons. He has penned a deal at Liverpool until the summer of 2028. Kuyt wished his fellow Dutchman luck, with Gakpo donning Kuyt’s no.18 shirt.

What a bit of business from Liverpool. Much like their move for Luis Diaz, they have moved quickly and efficiently and nudged aside a number of Premier League rivals to get a deal over the line. It was much-needed, as well.
Diaz and Diogo Jota are set for a delayed spell on the sidelines and the Reds needed to bring in a replacement. Gakpo eases the injuries in that area. What will be interesting to see is whether he starts, when they are back.
But, without a doubt, the Reds have got a real star. One that could go on to become one of the Premier League’s best young talents. Able to play up top, out wide or as a 10, he could be a real weapon for Liverpool for years.
