Werder Bremen’s sporting director has admitted that Milot Rashica is likely to leave the Bundesliga during the transfer window, speaking to Weser Kurier as speculation increases over the reported Aston Villa and Wolves target.

It seems that, almost every week, the landscape changes for one of the most exciting young talents in German football.

Marco Bode, the chairman of Bremen’s supervisory board, admitted earlier in August that Rashica had ‘registered a desire’ to leave the Weser Stadium – before coach Florian Kohfeldt struck a far more positive tone regarding the future of his star man.

Rashica had been left out of a pre-season friendly as he was apparently distracted by the ongoing speculation, before returning to the team after the storm died down.

So while Werder fans might have been increasingly hopeful of seeing Rashica at his barnstorming best again in 2020/21, Sporting director Baumann has now handed out a dose of harsh reality.

“There are certainly other clubs interested in Milot Rashica. That’s another reason why it’s not the most likely outcome that he will still be playing for Werder in the new season,” the former Germany international says, before suggesting that a much-discussed move to a Bundesliga rival is on the rocks.

“Because of their playing style and the fact that they are in the Champions League, RB Leipzig are certainly an exciting club for Milot Rashica.

“But the question is how long it makes sense for the player to wait when it doesn’t appear the two clubs can reach an agreement.

“If the two parties have different ideas and define clear boundaries for themselves that do not overlap, it’s possible that the transfer will not go through.”

BILD suggested recently that Leipzig were not willing to pay the £23 million Bremen are demanding for Rashica, a jet-heeled winger whose 11 goals and eight assists saved the 2004 Bundesliga champions from relegation.

Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers made offers for Rashica in June, according to Kicker.
