Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield United have been warned by IFK Gothenburg that highly-rated midfielder Alhassan Yusuf will be going nowhere on the cheap this summer, director Max Markusson has told the Blavit podcast.

At the age of just 19, this Nigerian teenager is already one of the most influential footballers in Sweden.

Yusuf is the reigning Young Player of the Year in the Allsvenskan and, having started the current campaign with four assists in eight matches, it seems only a matter of time before he is packing his bags and heading for a major European league.

ScoreNigeria claim that Yusuf’s all-action displays have led to interest from Premier League high-flyers Wolves and Sheffield United.

Though suggestions that the all-action dynamo could be available for as little as £1.8 million, according to GT, may be a little wide of the mark

“It’s not that you can understand the transfer market by playing Football Manager – just as I don’t think you should think we intend to release our best players for nothing either,” Markusson said when asked about Yusuf’s transfer value.

Then again, no matter how much Gothenburg demand, it is unlikely to put off the likes of Wolves and Sheffield United.

Both clubs are famed for giving young, unproven players a chance and Yusuf feels like a perfect fit at Molineux or Bramall Lane, given his perfectly-balanced blend of technique and tenacity in the centre of the park.

ScoreNigeria added that, if Wolves win the race, they could loan him out to Grasshoppers in Switzerland with a lack of work permit likely to delay a Premier League debut.
