Ivan Perisic is keen on a move back to Croatia with Hajduk Split but the club’s sporting director believes he may be fighting a losing battle luring the veteran away from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.
Less than a fortnight out from Spurs’ Premier League opener away to London rivals Brentford, the make-up of Ange Postecoglou’s squad is certainly less-than secure.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could still be on his way to Atletico Madrid. Davinson Sanchez is likely to depart too. And then there’s that whole Harry Kane saga.
Ivan Perisic is another Tottenham player who’s future – with just a month of the window remaining – remains uncertain.

Tottenham face Ivan Perisic decision
According to Gianluca di Marzio, the experienced Croatia international is willing to terminate the final 12 months of his £165,000-a-week contract in order to secure a dream return to his old employers, Hajduk Split.
But after an impressive pre-season, it seems that Tottenham are not quite so willing to part with one of the most versatile, flexible members of Postecoglou’s roster.
“As you well know, Ivan Perisic has one more year left on his contract with Tottenham. Of course, we are monitoring the situation and I can honestly say that we will try everything in our power, but of course we need to see a lot of predispositions first,” Mindaugas Nikolicius, Hajduk’s sporting director, tells Dnevnik NoveTV
“I wouldn’t want to reveal (the nature of the talks), in terms of who is talking to whom and in which direction it is going. Of course, any transfer can happen at any time.
“The transfer window in Croatia is open until September 8, and we’ll see what happens. Especially now that the Premier League starts, and Ivan also sees his status there.”
‘One of the best in Europe’
Perisic started his career at Hajduk before moving onto Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. If the Croatian giants miss out on a deal this month, they will renew their interest in the New Year.

“We are monitoring the situation. He is one of the best footballers in Europe in my opinion and of course he has offers from other clubs and so on,” Nikolicius adds.
“He would like to play for Hajduk, that’s clear. But he has a very good contract with Tottenham. Tottenham has not written him off for now. As far as I know, for now, they are seriously counting on him.
“But we still have a month of this transfer window and we’ll see what happens. If we don’t succeed now, we’ll see what happens in the winter.”
