Celtic are interested in securing the services of McKenzie from the Union this summer, according to The Daily Record.
Tanner has said that there have been talks with the Glasgow giants over the transfer of the USA international.
The Union sporting director Tanner has disclosed what he told Celtic regarding the sale of the 21-year-old defender.
The Daily Record has quoted Tanner as saying about McKenzie: “We have had interest. There was a talk with Celtic, but I told them: ‘We were not willing to talk before the [MLS in Back] tournament or during the tournament, but maybe then later on’.
“Will they come back? That is not in my obligation. That is up to Celtic. There is obviously a little bit of an interest, but there are so many players in the market at the moment.”
Tanner added: “I cannot speak for Celtic. I might think the interest (is serious), but as I said, there are so many players out there. It is not only Mark, but he’s an interesting asset.
“He is probably the most interesting prospect in our country in terms of defending. He is good.”
Good signing for Celtic?
McKenzie is a very good and promising young defender who has done well in Major League Soccer so far in his career.
The 21-year-old is progressing well in his career, and a move to the Glasgow giants this summer would be great for him.
Of course, one should not expect the American to hit the ground running if he does make the move, but he would be a good investment in the long run.
Meanwhile, former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has said on Twitter that Neil Lennon’s side will be disappointed that they could not beat Copenhagen over two legs in the Europa League Round of 32 this season.
Sutton made the comments while watching Copenhagan give Manchester United a run for their money in the Europa League quarter-finals on Monday evening (the Red Devils won 1-0 after extra time)
