Werder Bremen’s sporting director Frank Baumann has confirmed Aston Villa’s interest in £18 million-rated winger Milot Rashica ahead of their Bundesliga opener on Saturday, while speaking to BuliNews.
After weeks, even months, of speculation linking Premier League clubs with one of the most exciting forwards in German football, Villa’s interest is finally public knowledge.
Werder’s head of football operations, Clemens Fritz, told NDR recently that the Midland giants had been in touch regarding a deal for the explosive Kosovan international.
Now Baumann, who has been very open about the possibility of Rashica’s departure over the last few weeks, has weighed in reports suggesting his prized asset could be about to forge a new-look front three with Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore at Villa Park.
“There are several interested parties, and Aston Villa are one of them. As we have repeatedly emphasized, it’s still possible that Rashica will be here on October 5. I am reluctant to provide info on preliminary talks,” the former Germany international says.

Rashica will not feature in Werder’s clash with Hertha Berlin this weekend, though it remains to be seen if this is due to the speculation surrounding his future.
The former Vitesse Arnhem star had been struggling with injury recently.
Kicker reports that Aston Villa are willing to pay £16 million for Rashica – £2 million short of Werder’s asking price.
