Oliver Glasner has been offered a new contract at Eintracht Frankfurt as the Bundesliga outfit look to keep their manager out of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clutches.

Softly spoken and unassuming he may be, but do not make the mistake in thinking Glasner is something of a pushover.

A run of eight games without a win has brought the inner-Antonio Conte out of the Frankfurt boss, the 48-year-old making his frustration clear following that Champions League exit at the hands of Napoli and a series of poor results domestically. Glasner has higher standards than that.

And while Glasner may not be the first name on the lips of Tottenham supporters – another German-speaker Julian Nagelsmann many fans’ top priority for the role – do not underestimate the man who guided Frankfurt to the Europa League title last season, beating West Ham and Barcelona on route. Frankfurt’s poor recent form, under Glasner, is very much the exception rather than the rule.

Tottenham, BILD say, have already made initial contact with the former SV Reid defender.

And, with his contract expiring in 2024, Frankfurt are leaving nothing to chance. Sporting director Markus Krosche confirms to ZDF that a new deal has been offered, with The Eagles looking to ensure Glasner does not fly the nest.

“There is a contract until 2024. It’s no problem for me that we’re going into our last year, (but) that’s not our goal,” Krosche explains. “Our goal is to work together in the long term.

“(We have) also made a contract offer. We are in constant contact. It is a lot of fun working together and we don’t have any stress.”

Glasner would reportedly only consider leaving Frankfurt for a club capable of lifting or competing for the Champions League in the coming seasons. As things stand, it’s far from certain that Tottenham will even have a seat at Europe’s top table next term.

Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason will take charge during Monday’s trip to Sean Dyche’s resurgent Everton at Goodison Park.
