Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry has claimed that reported Celtic target Ivan Toney will be worth up to ‘£70 million’ in two years time.

Fry shared that ‘eight’ clubs have shown interest in Toney’s signature and four of them have made bids, as he told Sky Sports News (18/08/20 at 7:45 pm).

Sky Sports have reported that Celtic are keen on Toney’s services, as Neil Lennon has expressed his interest in the player before – it remains to be seen whether he is still keen on the hitman following the Bhoys bringing Albian Ajeti to the club.

It’s quite clear that if Toney is to move on then Peterborough will get the money they want from him, as Fry made it clear that he will be worth a lot more down the line.

“I have had eight clubs on to me,” Fry told Sky Sports. “I have had three of the eight make bids but nowhere near what we want, so he’s our player and he’ll remain our player until we will get a bid that we will accept.

On how many Premier League clubs have called him up about Toney: “Four,” Fry responded in a blunt manner.

“If I was a betting man, which I am, I would bet he would go to the Premier League. Without a doubt [he can be a success in the Premier League]. If we get £10 million plus add-ons, and he goes to the Premier League, even if he’s a back-up striker, he’ll be worth £50, 60, 70 million in two years time.”

Celtic’s record transfer sales

  1. Kieran Tierney

    £25 million (Arsenal)

  2. Moussa Dembele

    £19.7 million (Lyon)

  3. Victor Wanyama

    £12.5 million (Southampton)

  4. Virgil van Dijk

    £11.5 million (Southampton)

  5. Fraser Forster

    £10 million (Southampton)

Toney is one of the best strikers outside England’s top-tier and it is quite clear that he will be heading for a top-tier side pretty soon.

Whether he will be donning Celtic’s colours in the Premiership, or whether an English side will put money on the table for him, it seems he will get his chance somewhere.

Leigh Griffiths has had his issues at Celtic since football returned to action in Scotland and if he still doesn’t win Lennon over then it might be worth continuing their push for Toney’s signature.
