Wolfsburg are playing down reports suggesting that Micky Van de Ven is closing in on a move to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, managing director Marcel Schafer insisting that no offers have arrived as things stand.

On Monday afternoon, Tuttomercatoweb reported that Tottenham Hotspur had submitted an opening bid in the region of £26 million plus bonuses for the Dutch U21 international.

That, however, is news to Schafer.

As far as Wolfsburg’s managing director is concernerd, nothing is imminent with regards to a switch to North London for the talented, cultured Micky Van de Ven. Die Wolfe value the former FC Volendam defender at closer to £34 million anyway; four years remaining on his contract at the Volkswagen Arena.

“I follow the speculation. But not a single offer has landed on our desk,” Schafer tells WAZ

“I have not spoken to him either. There is no reason to do so. I expect him back in Wolfsburg next week.”

Van de Ven – signed in a bargain £3.5 million deal by now-Liverpool director Jorg Schmadtke – has blossomed into one of Europe’s most impressive young left-sided centre-halves in Germany.

At Spurs, Van de Ven would fill a Clement Lenglet-shaped hole following the Frenchman’s return to Barcelona.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter on Monday evening that Tottenham and Wolfsburg are ‘close’ to reaching an agreement. So either Romano is wide of the mark – and that is not often the case – or Schafer is attempting to keep things under wraps, with Van de Ven doing little to distance himself from the speculation.

“I am very good at Wolfsburg, so I don’t mind staying for another year. But if I get a chance to leave, I would like to,” the 22-year-old told ESPN in June.

“Of course, I read everything. I have good contact with my agent, so I know what’s going on. I’ll see where it will lead.

“Hopefully, (a big transfer after the U21 Euros) would be nice,” Van de Ven adds. “The Premier League? Maybe, yes. Who knows.”
