Jonjoe Kenny has had a really impressive season on loan at Schalke in Germany. The young Englishman became a fan favourite for the Gelsenkirchen club, who clearly want him back.
Schalke’s director Jochen Schneider spoke to Kicker about his side’s plans this summer. The Royal Blues aren’t in a position to sign Kenny permanently but they have tried to get him back on loan.
Schneider confirmed that Schalke have been in talks with Everton for another season-long loan deal but the Germans, sadly, have had to accept defeat in their pursuit.
“Jonjoe fit Schalke like a fist on the eye. We have expressed our interest that he will come to us on loan for another year. Everton saw it differently, we have to respect that,” Schneider said.
That is good news for Kenny who can now hope for a chance with the Everton first team next season. Skipper Seamus Coleman is clearly the first choice but he isn’t getting any younger.
Kenny potentially staying should mean that the Toffees will let Djibril Sidibe return to Monaco at the end of his loan spell.

Everton fans have seen how impressive Kenny has been at Schalke. The 23-year-old has the quality to nail down the right-back position for years to come but a lot can change in the next few weeks.
Good performances by Sidibe could tempt Carlo Ancelotti to keep hold of the Frenchman which would leave Kenny as the third choice and possibly out of the club again, either on loan or permanently.
Schalke will be waiting for a chance to snap him up if the opportunity does arrive but Schneider’s comments should give Kenny hope over regular football for the Toffees next season.
