Red Bull Salzburg may be forced to sell Everton target Hwang Hee Chan this summer with sporting director Christoph Freund admitting to Sky that the prolific forward might not extend his current contract.
There is a reason why this speedy little South Korean is being labelled by some as the ‘new Sergio Aguero’.
Hwang is a master of using his low centre of gravity to shrug off much bigger opposition, before finishing ruthlessly with either foot.
And having produced a sensational tally of 16 goals and 21 assists in all competitions, the diminutive forward helped Salzburg win the league and cup double this month.
But will he also play his last game for the Austrian giants before the season is out?
“Hee Chan Hwang has only one year left and he may not extend the contract either, we will see,” says Freund, who has previously claimed that he would not accept a bid of less than £35 million.
“I do not rule out that he could take the next step in the summer. There are some inquiries, including one from RB Leipzig and another from the Premier League.
Wolves, Arsenal and Crystal Palace have been linked with Hwang over the last few months but you would get short odds on that mystery Premier League club being Everton.
According to the Liverpool Echo in May, The Toffees are hoping to take a leaf out of Liverpool’s book and bring one of Salzburg’s star players to Merseyside, five months after Takumi Minamino made a bargain move to Anfield.
