Chivas de Guadalajara director Fernando Hierro admits that any decisions regarding the future of the ‘magnificent’ Alexis Vega rest with the player himself, speaking to Fox Sports amid interest from Premier League duo Liverpool and Wolves.

Two games, no goals, one point; there’s not been much for Mexico fans to cheer at the Qatar World Cup. But at least Vega, with his long-range shooting and supreme self-confidence, has put a few smile on faces.

One of the brightest sparks in Tata Martino’s rather underwhelming El Tri side.

According to Give Me Sport, Liverpool, Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers are all keeping tabs on the silky forward. Vega even has admirers at Real Madrid.

And Hierro, Los Blancos legend and former Spain coach, admits that Vega’s future is likely to be out of Chivas’ hands’. If Liverpool or Real Madrid firm up their interest, for instance, there would be little the Liga MX outfit could do to stand in his way.

Wolves, Liverpool and Chelsea like Mexico’s World Cup forward Alexis Vega

“The reality is that this is no longer our decision. It’s Alexis’. What is clear is that he is a magnificent player and everyone knows it,” says Hierro of his £10 million-rated talisman.

“What we want now is for him to feel calm and to be able to compete well with Mexico. Because, if Mexico goes far, it is good for Mexican soccer, and we are very respectful of that issue.

“What we’ve done is be calm. We know that, while the World Cup is on, the transfer market takes a little longer (to get going).”

Vega, who prefers to drift in from the left and side onto his favoured right foot, celebrated his 25th birthday recently. And the playmaker’s father believes now is the right time to push for a fresh start. Potentially on the other side of the Atlantic.

“He needs to leave the Mexican league,” Ernesto Vega tells ESPN. “He is ready to compete in any league, he needs that challenge.

“There are already talks with teams. Hopefully he will have the opportunity to fulfil that dream of going to Europe.”

Wolves, under Julen Lopetegui, are also keeping tabs on another exciting South American forward; Racing Club’s Carlos ‘Charly’ Alcaraz.
