Leeds United have brought in a new striker this summer, landing Valencia hitman Rodrigo Moreno in a club-record deal.
The Spaniard will now compete with Patrick Bamford in the Leeds attack, giving Marcelo Bielsa another dangerous striker for the top flight.
That move pretty much killed off any chance of Jean-Kevin Augustin joining the club permanently – but that situation is far from dead.
Leeds swooped to sign the Frenchman on loan from RB Leipzig in January, agreeing to a permanent move if they won promotion.
They saw Augustin as a player who could fire them to the top flight, whilst also being able to make an impression in the Premier League.
Sadly, it didn’t work out that way. Augustin managed just three appearances for Leeds, all from the bench and totalling just 49 minutes.
Leeds are trying to escape signing Augustin permanently despite winning promotion, and RB Leipzig are far from happy.
Leipzig’s commercial sporting director Florian Scholz has told Sportbuzzer that Leeds are now standing by their ‘contractual obligations’, and Leipzig are ready to take further steps such as legal action in order to get their money – which would be €21million (£19million).
“The legal situation is clear,” said Scholz. “Leeds is currently in the process of spending a lot of money on the transfer market, but does not stand by its contractual obligations. We are ready to take further steps,” he added.
