The manager looks set to take over at Everton are a prolonged search for Ronald Koeman’s successor.

Former Bolton Wanderers striker El Hadji Diouf has been speaking to the BBC about the prospect of Sam Allardyce taking over at Everton.
The 63-year-old has long been linked with the vacant position at Goodison Park and, as reported by Sky Sports, it seems the Toffees have finally agreed a deal, weeks after the dismissal of former boss Ronald Koeman.
“If Sam goes there he will eventually reach the Champions League,” Diouf told BBC reporter John Bennett. “He is a man who, with zero, can be the best.
“They need a character. With Bolton we played champagne football with Hierro, Campo, Okocha and myself.”

That they did, but Everton do not currently have that calibre of player and it will be interesting to see what Allardyce does if, as expected, he is officially unveiled in the coming hours.
Everton should not be thinking of the Champions League for now, with Premier League survival the only thing that matters are a terrible start to the campaign.

Koeman’s summer spending spree suggested Everton could stake a claim for a top-four finish but that was quickly forgotten, in favour or a string of awful performances and underwhelming outings from players who should know better.
If anyone can shake them out of their slumber, it is Allardyce, but it could be a long job.
