Celtic have won six and drawn two of their eight games since Neil Lennon returned to Paradise.
Dion Dublin has told BBC Radio 5 Live that Celtic should hire Neil Lennon on a long-term basis.
Lennon returned to Parkhead in February on an interim basis following Brendan Rodgers’s sudden departure.
But the 47-year-old looks to be doing a fine job, with Celtic winning six and drawing two of their eight games in charge.
A 3-0 Scottish Cup semi-final win over Hearts and a 2-1 Old Firm victory over Rangers are among the scalps he has taken since returning.
And Dublin, who briefly played with the Northern Irishman in Glasgow, hopes that his former team-mate gets the job on a permanent basis.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live [20/04/2019] when asked if he’d like to see Lennon get the job: “Yeah I would, I would…he is Celtic through and through and the fans love him as well.
“He is a hero and I don’t think they could go wrong, it’s a safe appointment but yeah I think it would continue to see them win lots of trophies.”
Dublin is right. A lot of Celtic fans would love Lennon but, by the same token, many more might prefer somebody else, somebody new.
Some exciting names are being linked to the post, such as Roberto Martinez, David Wagner and Andre Villas-Boas.
Lennon, who managed the club for four years until 2014, might be the safe bet, but you can’t fault the Parkhead hierarchy if they were looking for a bigger name to follow Rodgers.
Lennon took over a Hoops side that were seven points ahead of Rangers, but the gap will be back to 11 if they win at Hibernian today.
