Newcastle United recorded a late draw against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
BBC Sports pundit Dion Dublin has lauded the ‘unselfish’ Salomon Rondon after he helped Newcastle record a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.
The 29-year-old, who is on loan from West Brom, scored a stunning free-kick as Rafa Benitez’s side picked up another valuable point in their quest to stay in the Premier League.
Following Rondon’s strike, Joshua King equalised for the Cherries via the penalty spot before he doubled his side’s lead nine minutes from time. But in stoppage time, Matt Ritchie salvaged a point for his team.
Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (16/03/2019 at 11:00 pm), Dublin explained why Rondon is a ‘danger’ to opposition teams.
“I find him a really unselfish centre-forward,” Dublin told MOTD. “The reason why the players around him like playing with because he is very reliable. He holds onto the ball.
“He always seems to find his way into the box. He always seems to occupy two defenders at the same time. He’s always got players around him. Therefore, his teammates have got more space. All that space down the wings, if he occupies two players, it’s danger.”
As a result of that point, the Magpies remain 13th in the Premier League table, but they are now seven points clear of the drop zone.
Rondon has played a big part in that, scoring nine league goals this term and supplying his teammates with five assists [transfermarkt].
Whilst Rondon’s goal tally may not be in the high numbers, it doesn’t perhaps indicate the value he brings to his team.
Nonetheless, domestic football will now take a back seat as international football takes centre stage, with Newcastle returning to action on April 1st when they travel to Arsenal.
