BBC pundit duo Dion Dublin and Kevin Kilbane have heaped praise on Miguel Almiron following his impressive debut for Newcastle during their 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Former Villa striker Dublin stated one negative as he felt the January signing is ‘a little bit slight’, but other than that, it looks like he can ‘affect a football match’.

Almiron did make his debut last time out against Wolves, but Rafa Benitez handed him his first start and home debut at St James’ Park against the Premier League’s bottom-of-the-table club.

Speaking to Final Score on BBC One on 23/02/2019, both Dublin and Kilbane shared their thoughts on Almiron as they stated what impressed them.

“He just looks very comfortable,” Dublin told Final Score. “He looks a little bit slight. But he looks like he can affect a football match by getting the ball under pressure.

Kilbane agreed with his colleague: “I was impressed today. I spoke about him before the game, how he was going to adjust to the Premier League, the pace of it. But it’s good signs for Newcastle.”

In the match itself, Almiron looked lively, constantly getting on the ball, picking up the ball in dangerous areas of the pitch and being on the shoulder of the defender.

He showcased his ability to carry the ball, technical ability and raw pace as he hit the post during the game after bursting through on goal and chipping the goalkeeper.

Benitez substituted the former MLS player with nine minutes left on the clock and the Toon Army faithful gave him a standing ovation.

As a result of that win, the Magpies are four points ahead of 18th-placed Southampton in the table and they will be hoping to continue their march up the table as the season progresses.
