The Aston Villa legend says the club’s prospective new owner needs a sit down with the players.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Dion Dublin says that Tony Xia’s first job upon taking over Aston Villa is to have a sit down with the playing staff.
The Chinese businessman is yet to have his takeover ratified by the Premier League and Football League as the wait goes on.
That being said, Xia, who must pass an Owner’s test, is understood to have already filed all of the paperwork needed for such a move, and proven that he has a minimum of £500 million in English bank accounts.
If and when the takeover materialises, only then can Aston Villa fans start getting excited following a season of misery and lots of it.
Managers Tim Sherwood and Remi Garde were both sacked in a disastrous 2015-16 Premier League campaign which saw them relegated with 17 points – Aston Villa’s lowest ever total in a season.
Roberto Di Matteo is the man in charge now, and Dublin, who spent six years at Villa Park, hopes that the Italian is well backed financially by the new regime.
“I just hope the new owners back the manager with the funds he needs,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
“I also think one of his first jobs is to have a nice big meeting with the players and get the message across to them.”
