Tottenham Hotspur finished the Premier League campaign in the Champions League places.
BBC Sport pundit Dion Dublin has lauded Tottenham quartet Heung-Min Son, Moussa Sissoko Christian Eriksen and Fernando Llorente for stepping up without Harry Kane.
On two occasions this season, Kane has been on the sidelines with injury and is currently out of action as Spurs’ Champions League final against Liverpool looms next month.
Despite not signing any players during the previous two transfer windows, Mauricio Pochettino has utilised his fairly thin squad to its absolute maximum and produced a number of outstanding results both in the Premier League and in Europe.
Speaking to Final Score on BBC One (12/05/2019 at 5:15 pm), former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker Dublin praised Pochettino for the influence he has had on his players.
“Harry Kane’s one of the best in the world and will continue to be for years and years and years,” Dublin told Final Score. “But when he hasn’t been there, Son has stepped up, Sissoko has stepped up, Eriksen has had to step up and Llorente has come in and done a job. Nowhere near as effective
“What I am saying is that the players without Kane have really mucked in and that’s down to the manager by managing the individual personality to keep wanting to play.”
On Sunday afternoon, Tottenham recorded a 2-2 against Everton on home soil to end their Premier League campaign with a point.
Despite that, their season is not over yet because the Champions League final awaits Pochettino and his players as Liverpool stand in their way.
Given the fact that the North London outfit have not added any players to their squad during the past two seasons, Pochettino has done a remarkable job and it could get even better.
