Former Aston Villa striker Dion Dublin has been bemoaning the situation at his current club on BBC’s Final Score programme this afternoon.

Aston Villa’s poor form this season continued with a 2-0 defeat against Preston North End at Deepdale.

They conceded an early Ben Pearson goal, before Jordan Hugil then added a second.

The result leaves Villa in 19th position and without a win in nine games.

Dublin spent six years at Villa Park – scoring 48 league goals for the club during his spell at Aston Villa.

He appeared on the BBC this afternoon and at half-time, with Villa 2-0 down, he had this to say about the current situation at his beloved Villa:

“I spoke to people at Villa and they said to me the heart’s been ripped out. They don’t really know where they are, what type of club they are, what are they doing.

“Nobody seems to know what’s going on. If they don’t know, the manager doesn’t seem to know at the moment.

“I like Robby Di Matteo, I think he’s a good manager. I love the club, but nothing is going right anywhere.

“They can’t score goals, they keep leaking goals, I don’t know what’s happening.”

Villa’s defeat today has seen Roberto Di Matteo’s position at the club thrust into doubt with Villa chairman Tony Xia surely now considering if the Italian is the man to change things around for the club.

One thing for sure as far as Dublin is concerned, the Villa fans will keep coming back:

“The fans, Villa fans will always go watch their team. They do get frustrated when they get nothing back.

“Villa Park will always have an atmosphere. When it’s empty it has an atmosphere. It’s that good.”

Aston Villa fans will always back the club, but performances are simply not good enough at the moment.

Something needs to change, and Di Matteo might be struggling to hang on to his job after this latest setback.
