Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are not in dreamland – they really did sign Diogo Jota on loan from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid have got no shortage of attacking talent with Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro, Yannick Carrasco, Nico Gaitan, Fernando Torres and Angel Correa all vying for a first-team place in Diego Simeone’s selection.
Nonetheless, the Madrid giants’ unwillingness to give Diogo Jota even a sniff of a chance remains somewhat surprising – especially with the Portuguese winger flying on loan at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Atletico looked to have pulled of a real coup when they landed Jota on a five-year deal from Rio Ave for £6 million in March of last year (The Mail). The 20-year-old had been turning heads in the Primeira Liga for some time, becoming the club’s youngest ever top flight goalscorer before hitting 12 in 31 league games in 2015/16.

However, Atleti wasted no time loaning Jota out to FC Porto. And, despite scoring nine times in all competitions for one of the nation’s biggest clubs and Los Colchoneros being unable to bring in new players due to a transfer ban, they were still more than happy to send Jota out on another temporary spell.
Is there anyone hotter than Jota?
Although, according to the Express and Star, Wolves have the option to signing Jota on a permanent deal at the end of the season. And, considering his superb start to life in England, it appears they will not think twice about tying the exciting attacker down.
Jota has scored five goals in eight Championship games, including both in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest. His performances, meanwhile, have been simply dazzling and even the most neutral observer would be hard pushed to suggest there’s a more gifted player in the league right now.

In the meantime, Atletico have scored just once in their last three matches.
And though there is no guarantee that Jota could have turned stalemates against opposition as skilled as Valencia and Roma into victories, it seems a little strange that they would let go of a young player with so much potential.
