Diogo Jota will leave Liverpool sooner rather than later according to his former Portugal U21s teammate Stephen Eustaquio, who spoke to La Vanguardia this week.
The Portuguese forward has got off to an excellent start at Anfield, netting seven goals so far this season in all competitions, and Eustaquio believes he will go to an even bigger club.
Jota has only just arrived at Liverpool, so this is quite surprising to hear, but Eustaquio believes his close friend won’t be staying at Anfield for too long.
“He is a very hard-working person, very delicate with the ball; he plays a lot. He is not going to stay there; he is going to go higher,” Jota’s former teammate said.
“I shared a dressing room with him, he was captain of the Portugal Under-21 team. In bad times he showed a very strong personality.
“He is a very humble person and deserves to be where he is.”
We don’t doubt that Jota has the ability to play for a top club, but we can’t quite understand what Eutaquio means by a higher level than Liverpool?
The Reds have won the Premier League and the Champions League in the last two seasons, and while the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are historically bigger clubs, especially for someone from the Iberian Peninsula, it’s fair to say that their powers are waning.
It would be fair to argue that Jota is currently at the best team in the world, so the idea that he will be aiming higher is a little bit preposterous.
He seems to suit Klopp’s style as well, with one pundit saying that he’s a dream for the German, so it’s hard to see him wanting to leave.
However, Eustaquio may know something we don’t, after all, he’s one of Jota’s close friends and he will have spoken to him about his career ambitions many times before.
Whether or not this prediction comes true remains to be seen.
