Wolverhampton Wanderers sit third in the Championship table after beating Millwall 1-0 at Molineux at the weekend.

Diogo Jota has suggested to the Express and Star that Wolves need to be more clinical in front of goal if they hope to build upon their promising start to the new Championship season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have begun the new campaign in extremely bright fashion, winning four and drawing one of their opening six league games to sit third in the table.

But they needed a moment of magic from summer signing Jota to provide them with the three points at the weekend, as his stunning strike led them to a 1-0 win over Millwall.

But the 20-year-old insisted that if they hope to stay battling near the summit of the table, they need to start scoring more freely as they may get punished in future for not killing games off.

“We need to score more goals and kill the games, we need to not suffer like we suffered in this game,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star.

“In the last minute it nearly cost us. That is what we need to improve.”

Wolves have scored just eight goals in their first six games. And while that is certainly not the worst return in the top-half of the table, Nuno will surely be hoping that his men can make significant improvements in front of goal to ensure that they stay in touch with the front-runners.

But with a number of new signings still finding their feet at Molineux, it would certainly hardly be a surprise if they found their ruthless edge in the coming weeks.
