Wolverhampton Wanderers are pressing ahead with a move for Shoya Nakajima.

Diogo Jota of Wolverhampton Wanderers celebrates after scoring a goal to make it 2-1 during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea FC at Molineux on December...

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been waiting for Diogo Jota to spark into life in the Premier League, and now they have exactly what they wanted.

Jota was a star in Wolves’ Championship-winning campaign last season, notching 17 goals and five assists, and many tipped him to be a Premier League star too.

However, the Portuguese talent endured a tough start to life in the Premier League, and only bagged his first goal of the season in last week’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Just days later, he followed it up with another goal, helping his side win 2-1 again, this time over Newcastle United as he begins to spark back into life again.

Intriguingly though, Jota’s return to form coincides with Wolves being on the verge of signing another winger; A Bola report that a £17.8million deal for Portimonense winger Shoya Nakajima is nearing completion.

The Japanese sensation appears to be Molineux-bound, but it will raise questions about Jota’s position, as Nuno Espirito Santo already has Ivan Cavaleiro too, meaning he would have three wingers who prefer to play on the left of a front three.

Shoya Nakajima of Portimonense SC looks on during the Liga NOS match between Portimonense SC and CD Tondela at Estadio Municipal de Portimao on December 2, 2018 in Portimao, Portugal.

One potential way to get around the problem is to use Jota as a forward, a role that he toyed with on Sunday and one that he played in stretches of the Championship season last term.

Raul Jimenez is lacking depth behind him with Leo Bonatini seemingly struggling in the Premier League, and Jota could just offer Wolves a solution in attack, making him a striker more regularly whilst allowing Nakajima to play on the left.

Of course, Cavaleiro could be sold, but if he and Jota stay and Nakajima arrives, a change in role may be on the cards for Jota, in what promises to be a fascinating juggling act for Nuno to manage.
