The young West Ham United player has the perfect man to learn from at Upton Park.
West Ham United had a summer to remember for all the right reasons when they significantly strengthened their squad with some superb additions, most notably play-maker Dimitri Payet.
The 28-year-old wasted little time getting down to business at Upton Park and he already has four goals and four assists for the Hammers in just 10 appearances, but his influence could be felt long after he leaves if he can inspire one of the club’s youngsters to follow in his footsteps.
Martin Samuelsen also arrived at West Ham this summer from Manchester City, and while the 18-year-old has only featured twice for the first-team to date big things are expected of him.
The young Norwegian showed what he can do during pre-season with some wonderful friendly displays and after his Europa League debut it is only a matter of time before he plays for West Ham in the league.
Learning from Payet is exactly what Samuelsen needs as he bids to become the quality creative force he has the potential to be, and in truth there are few better players in Europe to watch right now than the majestic Frenchman.
It should not be underestimated what learning from a more experienced teammate can do for a young player’s confidence and ability, and although Payet is not getting any younger there is now a chance West Ham will have the perfect replacement, first for odd games and ultimately for good.
