The Frenchman forced a move from West Ham in January.
Olympique Marseille’s latest recruit Payet attends a news conference in Marseille
West Ham United fans had something of a tough January, mostly due to Dimitri Payet’s obvious desire to leave the club.
The Frenchman was the main talking point of the winter months after his stand-off with the club amid a desire to return to France and move back to former club Marseille.
In the end West Ham decided to swerve first in this game of chicken as they decided he was becoming a too disruptive influence on the group, selling Payet for below market value.
Since then however he has struggled to find his best form at Marseille, clearly suffering from a lack of match and training practice, despite scoring in the recent win against Guingamp.
But he put in a good performance at the weekend as Marseille defeated Rennes at the Stade Velodrome, after an indifferent performance against Nantes.
France’s Dimitri Payet waits to be substituted on
With the big clash against PSG upcoming Payet told La Provence he was starting to feel himself again:
“I feel better and better, it allows me to run more, to have more of the ball.
“Now, a big week is coming to prepare this important match. It must be prepared with great seriousness and serenity.”
West Ham have been flourishing since Payet was sent on his way. Other than a thumping defeat against Manchester City performances have improved and have now moved up into the top-half of the Premier League table.
Payet may be improving, but West Ham are looking better without him. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters at the London Stadium.
