Posting on Instagram, Dimitri Payet has described it as a great honour to be named on FIFA’s Ballon D’Or list.

The Frenchman was named among the 29 man list of candidates of Monday alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Paul Pogba.

His inclusion is not a surprise after he shone in the Premier League for West Ham United last season and put in a series of impressive performances for France as they made it to the final of Euro 2016.

It caps off that impressive year for him, in which he was also named in the PFA Team of the Year and won both West Ham’s Hammer of the Year and the Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.

And reacting on Instagram he described expressed his pride at being named among the world’s elite players on the list.

While delighted with this nomination, Payet will be keen to ensure his focus remains on helping West Ham turn around their slow start to the season.

The Hammers are currently 15th in the table but have won their last two games to pull three points away from the relegation zone.

They will need to maintain that form to increase that gap and getting Payet back to the kind of form that saw him named on the Ballon D’Or list will be key to that.
